For those of you who do not know what stitch fix is, Here is a blurb taken from their website - "Stitch Fix is an online styling service that delivers a truly personalized shopping experience, just for you. Fill out your Style Profile and a personal stylist will hand pick pieces to fit your tastes, needs and budget—and mail them directly to your door. Each box contains five items of clothing, shoes and accessories for you to try on at home. Keep what you love, send the rest back in a prepaid USPS envelope. Shipping and returns are free—even for exchanges!"
Now that you are educated on what service/services they provide let's talk about my opinion. At first glance my reaction is "heck yes! sign me up." But after receiving my first box my opinions changed quite a bit. Keep reading through this post to see what I am loving or not loving about this personal shopper subscription service!
My First Box- You can choose how often you want to receive boxes. I chose once a month to start in case this was something i didn't really want to continue. The price point is $20.00 per box and then the $20.00 can be credited to any items you wish to purchase from the boxes. If you decide to purchase all 5 pieces then they add on an additional discount to the items, like 20% off. Once the box arrives, you try on the items, discover new styles and brands and then return whatever you do not like or what does not fit. Here is where my first negative came. When opening the box there is a card that breaks down the price per item. I found that these items were super expensive. Everything in my box was over $50.00 and that is a ton to spend per item. Also I realized these are not brands that you can find at the stores so accessibility to buying more from the brands is limited to what you get in your box to come and requesting more from that certain brand. I am looking for something that I can visit a website and order pieces or styles from.
Here are some pieces that I received and I will explain what i thought about the pieces based off of fit and my personal style.
Piece #1: Cold shoulder tee.
This top is a heathered grey/nude color. The fit was perfect in the size sent to me. I found this top to be loose fitting almost flowy on my body shape (oval). The price for this shirt was $38.00.
I enjoyed this piece the most. Here is a photo of the shirt on me. I paired it with a simple black pair of leggings for a sporty and dressed down look. This shirt can also be easily dressed up-- throw on a chunky statement necklace and some dark washed jeans and heels are you are ready for date night. Cold shoulder is one of my favorite trends to spring so it is no surprise I kept this piece for my own collection :)
Piece #2 Slide- on sandals
price- $99.00 (omg)
These sandals are adorable but for $99.00 come on. Not much to say about these other than they feel like I'm walking on a cloud and I love the braided detail but will not be shelling out that much for a no name brand
Piece #3 Floral shorts
These flowered shorts fit like a glove. They have tons of stretch and the do not ride up in the crotch area. I loved these but felt like I wouldn't actually wear them. between being a mommy and being a proud member of the scrub life I do not go to many fancy events and felt these were a step up from an every day short, so i did not choose to keep these.
Piece #4 Floral peasant top
Well I hated this. The fit was all wrong and not something that I would gravitate to. The cost for this blouse was $54.00 and that isn't bad for a nice quality blouse but this one felt cheap, the fit was super snug in the waist, which is where I carry most of my weight. That being said this got sent back. But I did decide to pair it with some white pants so you can see the details and how I would style it. As you can see it is SNUG in the belly! yikes!
Piece #5
Lastly I was sent a pair of jeans for $54.00
The style of these jeans with the distressing were so my style! points for you stitch fix. But I do already own almost an identical pair, even down to the wash. I would have enjoyed these in a darker wash. Sadly these did not fit either. I am a 20/22 in pants and they wouldn't even button. The tag says 3x so thats unfortunate that they run small so for my bigger ladies these will not work for you.
Out of the 5 pieces I only kept the one. That isn't the outcome I was hoping for and i decided to leave notes for my stylist in hope to get a better box next time. If all else fails and I am still not happy with the majority of the items unfortunately I will have to cancel. I had/have high hopes for this company but its proving to be a bust. I might as well just order a bunch of things to try out off of my favorite sites and just return it. Because there really is no difference, other than the fact someone else is picking out the clothes.
Hope you enjoyed and that this post gave you a good review of this service!
thanks for reading
